The Byodo-In Temple In O'ahu, Hawaii

The Byodo-In Temple is located at the bottom of the Ko'olau Mountains In Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. It was introduced to the island of O'ahu on June 7, 1968. It is a smaller-scale replica of the Byodo-In Temple found in Uji, Japan, and was used to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii.

I've been to Hawaii every summer for the past 6 years, and the Byodo-In Temple is my absolute favorite place to visit! Despite being a tourist attraction, the atmosphere is so relaxing. Walking around, you can hear the calming sound of running water, birds chirping, and the sound of the gong found at the entrance that people can ring when they walk in. While there, you can actually go into the temple and pay your respects to the Buddha, feed the koi fish, and take many pretty pictures. Behind the temple, there is an area with a beautiful flower arch that makes a great picture spot! That area is also commonly used for weddings. The first thing I do when I visit is find the adorable cats that reside there! I love cats so much, and there are so many at the temple that are so calm, you can pet them. Some of them might even take a liking to you and follow you around.

Since I go to O'ahu every year, I have dealt with many different weather conditions visiting the Byodo-In Temple. I've gone in the rain, in the blistering heat, and on a sunny day with a nice breeze. I'm happy to say that all experiences were equally as nice! However, if you are someone that can't handle or doesn't like the heat, I would suggest you bring a fan or go on a not so hot day because there is no AC. The best time to visit the temple, and Hawaii in general, would be during the winter months because the average temperature during those months is around 60 degrees (not too hot, not too cold!)

If you ever visit O'ahu I hope you can add this location to your itinerary!
